The Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon (KAEM) is a thrilling desert trail running foot race established in 2000 that challenges participants to trail run across the ancient and majestic Kalahari Desert in South Africa. KAEM offers two trail running options: a 250km self-sufficient staged trail run over 7 days and 6 stages, and a 160km supported staged trail run over 5 days and 4 stages. Both races take place in September and feature stunning scenery, diverse terrain, and abundant wildlife. KAEM is more than just a race, it is an adventure of a lifetime.

Kalahari Desert, Augrabies Falls
120km west of Upington, Northern Cape Province, South Africa. The route winds through the Augrabies Falls National Park, private farmlands and along cultivated vineyards.
KAEM Big Daddy is the 2nd oldest self-sufficient, multi-stage trail running desert foot race, taking place in the oldest desert in the world. Here you get the opportunity to run in the footsteps of the ancient Bushmen, in remote places were very few people ever get to set foot, while enjoying sightings of magnificent Kalahari wildlife.
Introduced in 2023, KAEM Ultra is a brand-new, vibrant and unique desert trail running foot race. Over 5 days, you get to experience all the magic of the Kalahari and KAEM in a supported and relaxed way, offering trail runners and hikers the Best mix of everything.
Overnight Camps
Stretch tents with numbered spaces are provided. 5L water is provided at camp after each day's run.
